The Music Scores Collection at SLPL contains—you guessed it—music scores! Put simply, music scores are musical compositions that are written or printed. (You might also see the terms sheet music or notated music.) The Music Scores Collection also contains some music instructional books.
There are scores at several libraries around the SLPL system, but the majority are housed at Central Library. Around 850 items are held in the Entertainment, Literature, & Biography room and just over 23,000 more items are in the Stacks. The Stacks are not open to public access, but items can be requested online or in person to be retrieved by staff.
All books in the Collection feature the letter M in the call number. For example, M 782.14 Sondheim Stephen tells you the item is a score (M), the Dewey Decimal number to find it under (782.14), and that the composer is Stephen Sondheim.
The scores at Central Library are gathered in one section instead of being interfiled among other books.
The Stacks are not open to public access, but items can be requested online or in person to be retrieved by staff.
