In 1926, the Steedman Fellowship in Architecture was created to inspire students that were beginning their careers in the field. The Fellowship was a gift of George Fox Steedman and his sister-in-law, Virginia Clark Weddell. The fellowship is maintained by the Sam Fox School at Washington University and the St. Louis Chapter of the American Institute of Architects. Funds from the fellowship have generally been given to cover travel costs for the recipients as they studied various aspects of housing, building, and civic design across the globe.
Many of the fellows wrote detailed reports of their journeys and findings, copies of which are now part of the Steedman Library. Please browse the gallery below to view a few images from these reports.
